He is also known for writing quality work very quickly and has written a large number of novels as a ghostwriter or under house names.
With his wife (and fellow WotF judge) Kristine Kathryn Rusch, he wrote The Tenth Planet trilogy and The 10th Kingdom. Smith has also written books and comics for all three major comic book companies, Marvel, DC and Dark Horse. Smith is an avid poker player and a former golf pro. Living in Colorado, Anderson is an avid hiker and mountain climber; he has scaled all fifty-four of the state?s peaks higher than 14,000 feet and has walked the entire Colorado Trail (more than 500 miles). As a new author, he was an early WotF contestant, entering many times before he became a professional author in his own right, and thus ineligible for further submissions. He became a guest instructor in 1993 and a judge in 1995.
Steven ?S.M.? Stirling is a writer by trade, born in France but Canadian by origin and American by naturalization, living in New Mexico. His hobbies are mostly related to the craft of writing. He loves history, anthropology, and archaeology, as well as interest in the sciences.
Steven has published over 40 novels, at least 5 of which are New York Times bestsellers and he has won awards including the Dragon Award for his novel, Black Chamber.
Steven has been a Writers of the Future Judge since 2021.

Kristine Kathryn Rusch is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author and award-winning mystery, romance, science fiction and fantasy writer. She has written many novels under various names, including Kristine Grayson for romance and Kris Nelscott for mystery. Her novels have made the bestseller lists?even in London?and have been published in fourteen countries and thirteen different languages. She is married to, and has often collaborated with, fellow WotF judge Dean Wesley Smith.
She and Kevin J. Anderson first met in a college creative writing class as young aspiring writers and have kept in touch ever since (when they found they learned more from each other than from the minimally published professor).
